Where Fantastical Animals Roam: The Surreal Art of Tyson Grumm
Published Apr 28, 2025
Tyson Grumm is an American artist who creates surreal paintings that are like capturing a still frame of a strange dream. When we first came across his art, it instantly caught our eye with its whimsical animals, offbeat scenarios and quirky little details. His creations pair the familiar with the unexpected, layering ordinary objects with absurd twists that invite viewers to piece together their own narratives.
Born in Newcastle, Wyoming, in 1972, Tyson trained as an artist at Southern Oregon University, earning his Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1996. The characters in his works often feel like relics of history reimagined, part caricature, part commentary. They’re odd, compelling and deeply alive, tugging at the edges of what we think we recognize.
If you want to dive deeper into Tyson Grumm’s fascinating worlds, head over to his website and follow him on Instagram.
