Said Dokins Turns a Former Temple into a Luminous Script Laboratory
Published Jul 30, 2025
Mexican artist Said Dokins has transformed Mexico City’s Art Alameda Laboratory into a glowing space of text, light and living organisms with his latest exhibition, Inscriptions. Running through October 26, 2025, the show explores writing not just as language, but as a physical and biological act that redefines space.
Walking into the venue, which was once a church, feels like stepping inside a living manuscript. Monumental calligraphic patterns, rendered in photoluminescent pigments, wrap around the old walls, while digital projections flood the former temple with rhythmic, almost cosmic inscriptions.
The highlight of the show is Bio_writings, featuring living letters grown in Petri dishes using microbiota collected from the city, developed in collaboration with scientists from Monterrey Institute of Technology. These microscopic inscriptions shift and transform as the organisms evolve, blurring the lines between art, science and technology.
Inscriptions also includes large-scale wall interventions and luminous photographic works, all reflecting on presence, erasure and the power of marks in urban space. For more details about the exhibition, visit Art Alameda Laboratory’s website.
