Packing: A Playful Look at Life Inside the Shell
Published Apr 16, 2025
“Packing” is a quirky 3D character series by Chinese artists Elliot, Li Minmin and Zhiyi Zhang, exploring the idea that some of us are caught up in the routine of our daily grind, longing for something more exciting.
These designs illustrate the concept of being “trapped in the shell” of our profession, with more adventurous versions of ourselves hidden just beneath the surface. Each character serves as a fun visual metaphor, juxtaposing the dull and mundane with flashes of aspiration and curiosity.
Take the astronaut, for example. They’re “packed” into the unlikely setting of a laundromat, but dreaming of exploring the vast cosmos. Then there’s the tram driver; even though they’re confined to a ticket booth, they feel the call of roaring engines and crave adventure. Another cool character is the sushi chef, encased in an arcade machine yet yearning to craft delicious culinary delights.
