Monochromatic Architectural Typography by David Mascha
Published Mar 3, 2025
Vienna-based artist and type designer David Mascha created this incredible black and white alphabet with an architectural twist, as his contribution for the 36 Days of Type project back in 2023. If you haven’t heard of it yet, this global creative challenge invites artists to reimagine the Latin alphabet over 36 days. It’s like a design marathon that pushes the boundaries of typography, and David’s contribution stood out for its bold, structural style.
For his series, David explored the possibilities of Adobe Illustrator’s 3D features to create an alphabet of unique letters within a cohesive, geometric system. At first, he considered adding color to his designs, but ultimately decided to keep things monochromatic, and it totally worked. The stark black-and-white palette makes his intricate shapes feel architectural, like each letter belongs to a futuristic cityscape.
