MG EXE181: A Daring Tribute to MG’s Speed Legacy

Published Jun 24, 2025

Unveiled last year at the 2024 Beijing Auto Show, the MG EXE181 is a striking concept car that channels the audacious spirit of MG’s land speed legacy into a future-facing design. Created by the MG design team at SAIC Design Advanced London, the concept celebrates the brand’s 100th anniversary with bold aesthetics and innovative thinking.

The EXE181 takes clear inspiration from the record-setting 1957 EX181, a streamlined rocket of its time driven by Stirling Moss and later Phil Hill. This new vision echoes its aerodynamic philosophy, boasting a drag coefficient of just 0.181 Cd, a number that nods to both the name and the performance focus of the vehicle.

While the original was a symbol of raw speed and engineering bravado, the EXE181 reinterprets that legacy for the electric era. It’s a sleek, sculptural study in balance, between past and future, performance and efficiency. Led by Design Director Carl Gotham, the team has crafted a concept that not only honors MG’s rich heritage but also imagines what’s next.
