Leiria Film Festival Branding by Paulo Graça

For the past few years, Portuguese designer and illustrator Paulo Graça has been shaping the visual language of the Leiria Film Fest, a film festival held annually in the central Portuguese city of Leiria. His ongoing collaboration with the event has brought a fresh, handmade touch to its identity, reflecting the independent spirit of the films showcased at the Miguel Franco Theater.

For the 2024 edition, Paulo introduced a striking visual anchored by a surreal character holding a picture frame with a magnified eye, a simple yet clever metaphor for observation, storytelling and framing reality. In contrast, the 2025 identity takes a more vibrant turn. Built as a hand-drawn collage, it bursts with abstract shapes, playful patterns and bold colors, echoing both the spontaneity of children’s drawings and the analog texture of classic film reels.

This consistent use of hand-drawn elements and tactile textures is central to Paulo’s approach. Based in Tomar, he often blends illustration with graphic design to create work that feels lived-in and culturally grounded. For Leiria Film Fest, that means identities that don’t just advertise the event, they invite viewers into its world with warmth and imagination.
